Message from the Mayor - March 26, 2024

The first resolution on today’s Council agenda is the introduction of the 2024 municipal budget. At last week’s public workshop, the administration, led by Chief Financial Officer Jennifer McIver, reviewed the budget in detail with City Council. We look forward to Council introducing the budget today and moving the process forward to a public hearing and vote to adopt the budget on April 23rd.

We’re two months away from Memorial Day weekend, and we’ve got various projects in different stages of progress. Our new dog park will be completed in advance of the summer season; as will roadwork on Central Avenue, 46th Place, and 40th Street. We’ll also finish construction of new handicapped accessible ramps to the promenade at 51st and 53rd Streets.

For our beaches, the dredge “Liberty Island” is scheduled to arrive tomorrow and commence with beach filling operations. The project work will start at the southern end of the island, with beach fill to be placed between about 74th and 94th Street. Immediately after completion of the south-end, the project will move downtown to fill the beaches between about 29th and 52nd Street.

Over the next two months, the dredge will place a million cubic yards of sand onto our shoreline. To put that amount of sand into perspective, a million cubic yards would fill 140 football fields four feet deep with sand. As we’ve discussed before, our participation in the 50-year Beach Nourishment Program is a vital part of our overall mission to maintain our most precious natural resource; and I want to thank our partners at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the State Department of Environmental Protection.

At this point, I’m happy to report that we’re still on track to have the beach project completed prior to the summer season.

As always, please remember we are one Sea Isle City, and together we’ll be stronger than ever.

Smile…You’re in Sea Isle,

Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio

Message from the Council - March 21, 2024

At the start of the March 12 City Council meeting, Mayor Desiderio delivered his annual State of the City Address, during which he reported that Sea Isle City continues to display sound financial management, maintains an outstanding bond rating, and “the state of our city is as strong as it’s ever been.”

Each of the resolutions on the March 12 Consent Agenda was approved, including…

• Resolution 047, which opposed the State of New Jersey’s New Proposed Shore Protection Rule.

• Resolution 049, which authorized a National Co-Op Contract and Trade-Ins for a new Fire Truck from the Sutphen Corporation, of Dublin, Ohio ($1,158,326.06).

• Resolution 050, which authorized the use of State Approved Contracts, thus saving taxpayers money when the City makes purchases.

• Resolution 051, which confirmed Mayor Desiderio’s nomination of Vincent Morrison, Esq. for the Re-Appointment of Sea Isle City’s Municipal Judge.

The members of City Council would like to congratulate the Sea Isle City Historical Society for recently hosting a very successful presentation titled “Our Perfect Storm and Our Community’s Perfect Response,” which explained the Ash Wednesday Storm of 1962 – and how Sea Isle City quickly rebuilt following the storm’s devastation.

The next City Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 26, at 10:00 AM in Council Chambers on the third floor of City Hall – and we hope to see you there.

Best regards from the members of City Council,

Council President J.B. Feeley
Frank Edwardi
William Kehner
Jack Gibson
Mary Tighe
